Modern iPhones and Androids use OLED screens. When the OLED driver layer fails, the phone continues to operate normally — but the screen stays black.
Signs:On newer phones, this is the #1 cause of black screens.
Even if the outer glass didn’t crack, the internal layers of the OLED can fracture. This happens a LOT on iPhone 12–15 and Samsung S-series.
